The
Wolfson Press Fellowship Programme brings talented journalists in
mid-career to Cambridge for a period of between 10 and 13 weeks
to research a project of their own choosing under academic supervision.
The
Programme has been running since 1982 and to date has welcomed
297 journalists from 47 countries.
The Wolfson Press Fellowship was founded on the belief that if
able journalists are given time to think and reflect in an environment
with high ambient IQ, and exposed to the diversity of opinion and
depth of scholarship available in a great university, then they
will become better and wiser practitioners of their craft. Most
of those who have sponsored Press Fellows in the past have shared
that vision. For many of our alumni, their time in Cambridge has
been a life-transforming experience.
Who
is eligible?
Journalists
in any medium and from any country who are in mid-career, typically
between the ages of 28 and 45. We do not accept applications from
junior journalists or trainees. The Wolfson Press Fellowship
is not a training programme.
In order to
gain full benefit from a period in Cambridge it is essential
for applicants to have a good command of English.
Sponsorship
Candidates
who are offered a place on the Programme must find a sponsor willing
to cover the full costs of a Fellowship. We are currently particularly
interested in attracting Press Fellows from Africa, the new European
Union accession countries and Latin America -- particularly Chile.
There is a strong possibility that we may be able to find sponsorship
for exceptional candidates from these regions.
